Systems Administrator/ DevOps

The Job:

We’re seeking a Systems Administrator / DevOps to work as part of our agile team towards scaling our games to the next level while continuing the automation of our infrastructure. We want to see the best ideas you have.

What you’ll do:

  • Scaling our platform – help evolve our infrastructure, architectures and processes as we evolve too
  • Performance analysis – you should feel comfortable working all the way down the stack, starting with a slow web request, through client and server side code and ending with an analysis of network-based disk IO
  • Automating infrastructure – build, deploy and destroy servers for every purpose, from quick testbeds to mission-critical clusters
  • Manage CI build systems to support the deployment of our games.
  • Solving complex problems with simple, repeatable solutions

Must-have:

  • Degree in Computer Science related topic
  • 4-5 years Unix SysAdmin experience
  • Strong knowledge of relevant protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS)
  • Prior experience building out and scaling at least one significant Web based production apps infrastructure
  • Excellent knowledge of Apache and MySQL configuration.
  • Strong scripting skills (any of Bash / Python / Perl / Ruby)
  • Load / stress testing experience for Web applications.
  • Experience of monitoring and reporting tools (e.g. Nagios, Ganglia, MRTG)
  • In-depth and up to date knowledge of computer architecture and software scalability problems
  • Excellent system-level thinking – we want you to help design our systems, not just implement specs. You should have opinions on:
    • Scaling strategies
    • Build and deployment strategies
    • System security

FTW:

  • Amazon Web Services (or similar Cloud service) experience
  • Load balancer experience (HAProxy)
  • Facebook app experience
  • Experience with Systems automation (Chef/Puppet)
  • Some software engineering experience (PHP / Ruby / JavaScript / Node.js)
  • Experience working in Agile teams and/or DevOps
  • MySQL performance tuning
  • Flash/RIA development environments
